Dreaming of You

I love my SL life.  I truly do!  Sometimes I just wonder if there is anyone out there that I can spend my SL time with.  I've looked around from time to time and I seem to meet people who aren't really looking for companionship but for a fling.  So if there is someone out there that actually wants to have in depth conversations about philosophy, politics, art and things as little as what color I should blog...  You can feel free to come out of the woodwork at anytime.  :)

Waiting for Love

Real life has been kicking my butt recently and I have no excuses.  I've just been livin', workin', and dealing with all that comes with it.  So, I'm back now...  YAY!

The idea here was a woman waiting for her lost love.  Perhaps a vampire will be coming out of that tomb or a zombie or even her lover's ghost.  Either way, she's waiting and is prepared to wait forever.

Thistle Faery

I really had a good time with the Fantasy Faire.  I had originally thought that I had missed it but I managed to get in on the very last day.  All of the items were extremely impressive and I am sure that I spent much more than I should have.  But when it's for a good cause, it makes the buyer's remorse a little easier to handle.

What makes it even easier is this lovely dress from Evie's Closet!  The outfit came with the wings and the crown just added to the appeal.  Pairing them both with the mesh hair from Wasabi Pills was a no brainer!

Dizzy Gray

I have to say that I love this image.  The face that I am making here is an 'O.o' face.  On top of that, the shadows came out really nicely.  But what really gets me is the outfit. The 'Hunted' outfit from The Sea Hole is so dreary and dark...  mixing it with the light and shadows was fun to play with.  What you can't see is the little wolf on the back of the skirt.  It's really a fun little addition that makes the skirt really whimsical.  I have been living in this outfit since I put it on a week ago!

Gemini Sisters

Oh hi there!  I'm way behind on the 52 Weeks of Color Challenge...  This is my submission for Seashell Peach.

I still have to do Bright Turquoise and Shuttle Grey.  I also need to look around for Thistle!  On top of this, I told Leli that I wouldn't do any shopping until I did two blog posts for which I have done absolutely no shopping for.  So, I gave myself the challenge...  The reward will be shopping at Fantasy Faire with Leli!  And no, I won't be counting this post as one of the two that I need to do for my reward.  :P 

So, for this image in which I have entitled 'Gemini Sisters', I pulled Akemo over to my house and made her get down to her under-roos.  I dropped a pose box above my house, colored the background in a smokey white color and dropped down the Gemini Pose from F*cking Ninjas'.  I then put up two lights at different heights and distances.  The effect was a strange dual shadow that I aged with a nice rusty texture.

I think I am in love with the sepia tone and the gritty feel to the full sized image.

Royal Girls

Leli is always telling me that I shop too much.  The fact that she hates to shop doesn't help that it is hard for us to blog together on a consistent basis.  So when I saw these dresses from NAME HERE, I knew I just needed to get them for us.  In fact, I got the purple for Leli and I as well as the black version for Leli as she was in dire need of some dress up clothes.  I swear, that girl would live in jeans and a hoodie if I let her.

Leli's shoes are super cute ballet flats from NAME HERE and my heels are from Grim Bros.  Her little flats have the most adorable little bow on them while mine are covered with jewels and shiny black mini skulls.  The details in the heels are to die for.

I really loved the way the skirts on these dresses flow as well.  I love how it gives the 'baby doll' look while still staying classy enough to be a cocktail dress.  What impressed me was the fact that even though it is made for a woman, it is not at all unsuitable for a child avie.  Often times you will find the cutest outfits and think that they would be great for a kiddo, only to find that they have a heavily shaded breast area.  I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by this dress.

Because Leli is more Tomboy than she likes to admit, I did not force her to wear any jewelry and I could not convince her to change her hair.  Because I wanted a nice matching photo, I chose to focus only on the skins and not the accessories.

Leli lives in her Mynerva skin.  She seriously would not change for the life of her.  But the details in the skin really are lovely.  It's a fresh looked skin that I have not really commented on before, even though she wears it in every photo.  The details really are flawless and I can't praise it enough.  If you or a kiddo are looking for a fresh faced skin, you should totally head to Mynerva and check out the demos.  (Hint:  If you want to MATCH your kiddo, they have matching skins as well.)

I had the change to go to [A]Limited the night before it opened and demoed the skins that they had available.  I liked all of them but the Harajuku Fun just jumped out at me.  I had to have it.  The pricing was a bit steep but that's only because they are limited edition.  There will only be 500 of each item there available.  When they are gone, they are gone.

Serene In Green

Trying to catch up quickly to the current round of the 52 Weeks of Color Challenge again.  It seems that I get lazy after a week or two and fall behind, only to catch up again quickly.  But this week I have something new to show you!

This skirt is from the store celoe.  It's an all mesh store that has goodies for the ladies (sorry guys, not a drop of menswear that I couldfind).  Now, you could compare it to coldlogic since it is all mesh but I found that coldlogic prices were a teeeny bit more economical.  But I loved the cuts of the celoe designs and found myself wanting to buy multiple pieces!  There seems to be a bit of a downside to the offerings though...  No fat packs!  And with a wonderful color selection, I did want to purchase packs.

For example, the skirt I am wearing comes in multiple colors!  Eleven to be exact.  From the green margarita that I am wearing to grey, teal blue, pink, black, navy, orange and khaki!  They even have group gifts hidden in a little shelving unit.  You get a lovely champagne colored dress and a gorgeous blouse that you cannot find anywhere else in the store (I know, I looked because I wanted more of the style)!

They have belts, jewelry, handbags and shoes to go along with their clothing!  It's really a one stop fashion shop.  If you haven't checked it out yet, see the credits for your limo.  It is on the MAYFAIR sim directly across from Mon Tissu.  Enjoy!

Sometimes you don't even know that you have a friend until they are there to listen to you.  Sometimes that friend can make you smile by a simple word in a text when your day is going rough.  (That word was 'boob' by the way.  Let me tell you how funny it is to have a client yelling in your ear through a telephone and getting a text that only says 'boob'.  Also, let me tell you that laughing at said text while being yelled at is probably not a good idea because the person on the other end of the line definitely doesn't think his situation is laughable...)  And sometimes, that friend doesn't know that they helped you through a bad time until you post a random blog about it.

Sometimes friendships aren't simple things.  Sometimes they are awkward or silly and sometimes they don't even seem to be friendships.  Sometimes those friendships came about in a random fashion.

Sometimes it's all of the above and other times, that same friendship isn't able to be labeled.

Grease Monkey

Same old, same old.  That's what I have been blogging lately.  From what I am wearing (always in my comfort zone) to where I am located, it's been stale.  So, I thought it was time to switch it up a bit.

My grandfather was a mechanic and a welder.  Even though he didn't complete high school and in fact, dropped out of school when he was in the 9th grade...  He was the most intelligent man I have ever met in my life.  He trained himself how to work on cars by reading from their service manuals, which is a feat in and of itself since he was functionally illiterate.  He learned how to weld at a young age as well by watching others.

He worked on the Southern Pacific railway as a mechanic for their freight train engines for the majority of my childhood.  When the station that he worked at closed down, he moved on to working with diesel trucks.  My grandfather became famous in the semi-truck yards as the best mechanic to see in the Northwest.  Companies would call him to see if he could be persuaded to leave whatever job he was at and come work for them.  But my Grandpa was the most loyal man on the planet and once he set his mind to something he was unwavering. 

My Pops passed away in 2007 but he raised me, along with my Grandma, and I will never forget the lessons he instilled in me.  I will always know the differences between a Metric Wrench and a Standard Wrench, a Chevy and a Ford, and why I should by local, American and support farmers.

Dandelion Girls

Second Life is a wonderful and interesting place in many respects.  I have gone through a few changes and challenges in the recent weeks.  Some of these challenges, I was not willing to discuss for some time because I was not able to process things in a timely manner.  Now that I have been able to think over my reaction and why I felt the way I did, I should share.

If you have read previous posts, you would have seen mention of a child named Monroe.  I had only adopted for a week before we found that we were not a fit.  Monroe had other needs in a family other than I could provide.  I was a bit broken up about it and the thing that was most awkward was that this happened right as I had started a trial with a second child.

As they say, when one door closes, another opens.  In this case,  it's been for the better.  Leli is a perfect fit for me.  She is grounded while I am flighty.  She is frugal while I am a shop-a-holic.  She allows me to blog, to shop, to do whatever it is that I need to do while being patient at the same time.  While this all sounds like Leli is my opposite, she and I share many similarities.  Suffice it to say, she is my miracle child!

Now, I know that some people don't understand the allure that child avatars have.  If you ask my bestie, Akemo, she would be the first to tell you that I had been severely opposed to having a family in SL.  The fact is that I had been lonely and I wanted to explore a new side to my persona.  Because of the fact that you can be or do anything you like in the sandbox world that we all know and love, I thought:  Why the hell not!

I had second thoughts when Monroe and I didn't work out but if that wouldn't have happened, I wouldn't have my wonderful Leli!  I love her very much and I couldn't imagine my SL without her.

And...  now I'm dating too.  O.o

Dark Raspberry at Innsmouth

Dark Raspberry was only difficult because I needed to clean my inventory.  Once it was cleaned (which took far too long and came with a very patient child allowing me to use our dining room as a changing room) it was a bit easier.  But because my little fashionista informed me that I was more 'adult' in my fashion choices, I thought I would step outside of what appears to be my comfort zone.

 (Please note, that is a knife in Leli's hand.  However, I had to bribe her to take this picture.  She was given an evening with candy and an R rated movie and she did not have to take a bath!  She also wanted everyone to know that she loves her momma and would never hurt me.)

I chose the Skull Eat My Pants from ur.favorite.one that I got from the Zombie Popcorn Hunt and paired it with Gisaci's Milla Milla shirt in Ukraun Purple.  Leli is wearing an outfit from Larnia Kids.

But the best part of this all was the location.  We went to Innsmouth.  Innsmouth is a Sim based on the story 'The Shadow Over Innsmouth' by the grandfather of modern horror, H.P. Lovecraft.  If you haven't heard of H.P. Lovecraft...  Well, you should look him up.  But while you do that, I'm going to give you an excerpt from 'The Cthulhu Lexicon'.

[Innsmouth, Massachusetts. Seaport village founded in 1643 and located on the coast of Massachusetts between Newburyport and Arkham at the mouth of the Manuxet River. Since the 1840s, Innsmouth has been shunned by the surrounding community as cursed and diseased to the point of almost complete isolation. The citizens of Innsmouth suffer a strange malady which brings about the Innsmouth look and ultimately drives those afflicted into total reclusion. This look includes large, staring, unblinking eyes; queer, narrow heads; flat noses; and skin which isn’t quite right. As the afflicted progress in age, the skin gets rough and scabby, the sides of their necks shrivel, giving the impression of gills, and they go bald. The fingers are disproportionate to their hands and they have abnormally large feet.

Innsmouth was a bustling port during the War of 1812, though prosperity soon faltered after the end of the war. If it were not for a prominent sea captain named Captain Obed Marsh, Innsmouth may have died off altogether. Through trade contacts in the South Seas, Captain Marsh was able to open the Marsh Gold Refinery which remained operational until February, 1928. Other businesses such as the railroad and numerous mills also opened their doors in Innsmouth, but none remained successful. Near its closure, the refinery was reported to run on lean times, itself. Fish remains plentiful in the area, though the locals do not take advantage of the trade. Devil’s Reef lays a mile-and-a-half to the east of Innsmouth Harbour.

In 1846, an epidemic was reported to have taken over half the population of Innsmouth, and riots and other ghastly doings were reported as well. The epidemic occurred only a scant few weeks after Captain Marsh and thirty-two others were arrested for unspecified charges on Devil’s Reef one evening. Though never actually charged, it is recorded that the group was detained for human sacrifices and devil-worship. In actuality, the epidemic was a cover-up for an attack by the Deep Ones on Innsmouth after going too long without human sacrifices.

A winter-long investigation prompted by the reports of an unidentified male of horrible doings during the summer of 1927 led to numerous arrests during February, 1928. An enormous number of buildings were burned down or dynamited, and a submarine sent torpedoes down the abyss at the base of Devil’s Reef. At that time, the town population stood at from 300-400 people. Current population is unknown.]

52WOCC - Folly

Folly was a super hard color for me.  I searched for days to find it and still had a hard time.  Lelisia helped me find the whole outfit and I have to say, the little girl is turning into a real fashionista.  But, what fashionista doesn't like shopping for themselves?

Either way!  My SL family life is getting better and better by the moment.  I have been neglecting Amras though.  So, I am going to need to take a moment here and there to step in.  I paid for the curiousities shop and have yet to get anywhere with it!  O.o

52WOCC - Alice Blue

Alice Blue was a bit difficult until a friend of mine dropped a promotional copy of the LoliDeo dress (named after Deoridhe of Prim Dolls, due to a dare that she had issued).  The cute little Lolita Dress took very little modding to have it fit just right.  And of course, the dress had me looking for different and unique places to snap a picture!

Luna really outdid herself with Patina this week.  I had a bit of a time trying to find something, anything that would work.  Then I remembered that I had a lovely little shirt from Sweet Anidote!  The outfit is plain but I think it's cute...

And I have to say that I LOVE the shoes from HOC.  They come with a HUD that gives you lots of color choices.

The makeup is my basic go-to ensemble.

52WOCC - Iron

So, iron was a bit harder for me.  However, I have been wanting to blog De La Soul's new Gypsy Outfit since the release on 25L Tuesday of last week (or was it the week before?).  So, I thought this was a good enough chance to do so.

Well, I was given a sneak peek at the HUDs that can be added on to this little number before they came out and...  I just couldn't seem to really get out of the outfit.  There are so many options!  My eyes boggle at how beautiful this number is.  Take a look!

 

What you can't see in the pictures is that the skirt is flexi as you would expect.  But the fringe at the back, the fringe at the hip and each of the coins (or optional tassles) is flexi.  Not as singular unit but individually!  O.o  GORGEOUS!

The problem I see here is simple.  I suck at taking pictures!  You cannot see the texture on the coins well at all.  But let me tell you that they are impeccable.  And the cute little beads on the halter of the top?  Adorable!

I love how the fabric drapes over the hip and hugs the waist.  I seriously want to live in this outfit!  (As you can tell by how many pictures I took...)

It even comes with a coin purse!  Seriously people, the details are just fabulous.

So, I stepped out of the iron and had to give you a sneak peek at the things you can do with the add on HUDs.

Change your main fabric colors.  Change your accent fabric colors.  Change the coins to tassels and the color of those tassels.  Change the color of your fringe.

Just have Iron left before I can get to patina and then I'm fully caught up!  This was not as much of a challenge as I thought it would be.  The part that takes me the longest is finding a nice place to take the pictures.  It's actually quite fun exploring!

I also think I need to look into different Windlight settings.  I keep using the same three or so!  Well, here's the look.
